The Enter Area-51 Winner!

Paul "Paj" Jones

After an impressive month of tough competition, British gamer Paul Jones was named the proud winner of an Alienware M17x laptop.

We spoke to Paul to ask him a little about himself and about the Enter Area-51 competition.

Can you tell us a little about yourself?
My name's Paul, I'm 22 years old and from Manchester in the UK. I work in Internet Security doing vulnerability testing.

How about your history of gaming?
I first starting gaming in the early 1990's on a Commodore 64 then upgraded to start playing Doom. The first real mutliplayer game for me was Team Fortress Classic.

I played early beta versions of Counter Strike, and have played on and off since then.

I'm currently in the latest generation Snipers Alley lineup, and have been in numerous SA lineups and other teams over the years.

What is it about video games that keeps you coming back for more?
It's a good way to unwind, and I enjoy the challenge.

What LAN events have you been to, and what do you enjoy about them?
I've been to many small lans, and three I-Series events run by Multiplay. I go for the competition and to meet up with friends.

What made you want to enter this competition?
It was the chance to win an awesome laptop, mainly. Also the format of the competition was interesting, and a refreshing change from the standard.

Before this tournament started did you think you were capable of winning?
I knew I could easily qualify for the Left 4 Dead stage, but from there everyone had a good chance of winning it.

How did you set about trying to win the big prize, in both stages of the tournament?
The CSS stage was fairly straight forward, I focused on getting a high KPD ratio rather than just the frags. I knew the Left 4 Dead side of the competition was going to be tough, but I set my sights on getting all the achievements fast. It took me 7 days to get all of them.

Having some friends that play L4D also helped with some of the harder achievements and survival.

You'll shortly be receiving the M17x laptop - do you have any plans for it?
I will definately be playing some new games on it that my desktop would struggle with! :)
